Pictures from the Weekend

Sunday Sunrise from My Bedroom, Homer Alaska

Friday was the Beach Walk at McNeil Canyon Elementary School. The kids all picked up trash from our beaches. They did a terrific job and were thanked with a root beer float party!

This is Marina's friend, Emma. Gage's daughter.

Saturday we went to the Golden Birthday of Kaylene Radeke! For those of you unfamiliar, a Golden Birthday is the year when your age and the date match. For Kaylene, she was 15 on the 15th. She had invited many of her girlfriends to the house for an overnight.

In these scenes, you can see that Marina accidentally blew out Kaylene's candles on her cake. Kaylene didn't mind
It was fun being with all those kids and seeing how they've grown! DeeJay and Brandon look so old! Kelly (Kaylene's mom) prepared for this birthday by leaving her a special gift to commemorate her golden birthday. It was a lovely ring with her initials carved inside. She may not be with us in body, but she is always with us. After cake those big boys went out and sat in Brandon's car. Glen, Edye, Vince and I were all sitting in the kitchen when Glen noticed it. There are some things that everybody does when they turn 16. Sit in their car with their friends is one of them.

Later in the evening we sat around the TV and watched a video that Glenn brought home from the Talkeetna Fair. It was a sales video for an industrial log splitter. We watched it for about 10 minutes, there is no talking, just rocking background music, and you can see the ease of operation of the super splitter. The guys were totally into it. I was laughing my head off that we were watching a video of log splitters.

Finally, I said to Edye, "Are we total Alaskan rednecks now or what?" and so she and I went and watched Night at the Museum on their huge screen blue ray. We could hear the guys hooting at the TV in the other room, "Look at that, split those into six pieces and then conveyor belts it up! So Cool!" It was fun.
We brought Brandon and Mariah to our house to overnight and let the 15 year old birthday girl just have a great night with her friends. We all stayed up late over here and woke up to...

What a glorious sight!
