Regular Thursday

Another regular Thursday. School drop offs, blitzkrieg cleaning, a little Uno with Marina, administrative details. Then lunch with Mema and off to Marina's school. After drop-off I run errands all over the place, usually running into friends and visiting. Today I got to hear about J.M.'s trip to the San Fransisco Bay area and the Chinese New Year's Parade that she had been wanting to take her kids to. (It was like gale force rain that day and the dragons were all covered in plastic.) I must say hello to a should be Homer-ite in the Berkeley hills! (Come to Kilcher Road soon!) There were no new obituaries posted at the post office. There were no water filters available at the Save-U-More. My poor hair.

When three o'clock hits, the whirlwind begins. Mema picks up Marina, I pick up Fal. I drop Falcom at Cherish's for his voice lesson.

Then I zip to Mema's where I pick up Marina for ballet class. I had a startling realization today at ballet. When we arrived all of the girls were clamoring to sit by Marina to have her attention. It was odd. Then I gave her a gentle reminder to be a nice friend, "If you want a friend be a friend." and I blasted out of there to pick up DeeJay.

Today DeeJay recieved his first library card. When asked by the receptionist, he told the lady he was turning 18 (which he is not) then I asked him how many years until he turns 18 and he did not know. It was bugging me, but then I remembered that this is life in Learning Disability Land, I got back into my right head and said, "I am feeling like something is bothering you, it's like your head is not clear." We went to 2 Sisters and had coffee and he told me after a bit that the popular girls in his class at school came over to his girlfriends, for no reason, and called them 'emos' making them cry.

TODAY'S LESSON IN HIGH SCHOOL LIFE

Now, you may not be aware of this but 'emo' is an important word. Apparently, this is a word all high scholars know. It is a very big insult and a disgrace to be called this. It refers to someone who is cutting themselves.

DeeJay is great. He stood up for his friends. But that doesn't mean a guy is not pissed!

Then back to ballet where the conclusion of the shocking news came to me. I was talking with the teacher after class and she said, "Marina is so popular, I've got to learn some helpful strategies for dealing with this kind of problem..." A not so subtle reminder that she may be easy now, but in about 7 years from now we'd better be living on a sailboat off the coast of Yap if we are going to stay sane.

And off to dinner! Locals night for burgers and fries and chicken sandwich with side salad. It wasn't memorable enough to photograph, although it is a very cheap meal. What is memorable is my small children running around a bar. Cherish and Falcom continued their love at voice lessons and she gave him the movie High School Musical with sing-a-long! LM continued the love with Falcom by giving him endless quarters for the jukebox. Marina went up to a fisherman (who was wearing a sweatshirt that said, "Keep Alaskan Fisherman Wild, Don't Buy Farmed Salmon.") and asked him for money for the games. He curtly told her to go ask her mother. And she shot him a look back and said, "OK".

Karen sent over a link to a website www.additudemag.com. Nice hints for the ADD challenged.
$103 a barrel today but they can't reimburse the fisherman? Yes, it's still going on.
I showed the Sarah Silverman/Jimmy Kimball links to Vince and he was laughing so hard he was wiping tears. Thanks Mel!
